Good question. Easter is remembering that Jesus died on the cross to take away the sins of the world, then rose again by the power of God on the 3rd day!
Why was it necessary for Jesus to die? Jesus had to die because it was God’s righteous requirement for the atonement of sin for mankind.
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (24) and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, (25) whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins” – Romans 3:23-25 (ESV).
How have we sinned? How did sin come? Why do I need salvation? It all started in the garden of Eden, where God had placed man that he had made in his own image. The purpose was to have a relationship with God as our heavenly Father and worship him for his holiness and divinity. However, Adam and Eve went against God’s instruction which destroyed the beautiful relationship they had. Consequently, they were separated from God and sin entered the world leading to all the wickedness and evil present in it today – Genesis 1 – 3.
In light of this, we all needed a saviour, so Jesus came as God had said he would, in Genesis 3:15 (ESV).
When we die we die, so if I’m good and do the best I can I’m good, right? Wrong.
We are spirit beings and all we see isn’t all there is. God created us in his image remember? When Jesus came he gave us an insight into this, he had an earthly body, then when he died he gave up the ghost and went back to God – Luke 23:46. However, it didn’t end there. The Bible tells us on the 3rd day Jesus arose from the dead and was seen by several credible witnesses – 1 Corinthians 15.
So, it’s Jesus’ Christ death and resurrection that gives us hope, we will be reunited with loved ones who died in Christ and live in heaven with God forever, completely free of evil, sin and the devil’s grip in our lives and the world – 1 Corinthians 15: 55-57.
This is the reason we celebrate Easter, we have been given the victory over sin and death through the death of God’s son Jesus Christ and when he rosed it sealed our salvation, but only to those who believe in his name Acts 16:31 and confess their sins, 1 John 1: 9.
Will you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ today and confess your sins? He’s waiting at the door of your heart right now (Revelations 3: 20-22).
