If the thought of Christmas causes you to stress and have unhappy thoughts, then you have the wrong perspective. People say it’s about joy and forgiveness, it’s about giving, it’s about family, love and remembering the poor or it’s for the children…
Why Celebrate Christmas?
Is it about tradition? If so, what traditions?
- Is it about having a Chrismas tree with decorations, Christmas stockings, candy canes and gifts under the tree?
- Is it about kissing someone under the mistletoe?
- Is it about going into a lot of debt to make your friends and family happy?
- Is it about the Poinsettia weeds planted in front of a church that started this ancient tradition in Mexico?
All these may be fun and games or the cause of needless stress and nothing at all to do with the reason for the season.
Let me tell you why we celebrate Christmas; it’s because of Jesus.
The Bible tells us that God loved us so much that he sent he only son Jesus to die for our sins and reconcile us back to God forever – John 3:16. Now, this should give you real cause to shout for joy and celebrate!
God through his son offers you eternal life and it’s free! This is the best and most affordable Christmas gift ever! 😀
The bible says all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory – Romans 3:23.
The consequences of this is death (eternal damnation) – Romans 6:23.
There is a warning however for all those who reject this gift; Luke 13:28 tells us, “In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth…”
So, in all your celebrating ensure that you have asked Jesus into your heart as your Lord and personal saviour and that you and your family are on your way to an eternity connected with God through Jesus – Joshua 24:15.
Now, if after all this you have the resources and time to go festive and buy gifts, then do that, but don’t lose sight of the fact that Jesus is the reason for the season and people need to know this especially at Christmas. The reason why we celebrate Christmas is God so graciously gave us a precious gift and saved us from an eternity separated from him.
Merry Christmas! 😀
