People are fascinated by the supernatural and the proof is revealed in supernatural shows, fantasy literature or science fiction, people dabbling in the occult and people chasing after signs and wonders.
However, for the believer, the bible says in Matthew 16:9, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” ESV.
What this tells me is that as a believer, someone who is a child of God and a born again Christian, my authority comes from my awareness of this scripture and my implementation of it. Basically, I have to bind anything in my life i.e. situations and circumstances that does not line up with the scriptures and declare what the bible says instead. It is not enough to believe what the bible says, we have to action it! Also, it’s important to realise that this is and should be an ongoing process (remember pray without seizing, knock and keep on knocking).
So, where do you start?
2 Peter 1:3 – “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue…” If you read on to verse 11 you will see how to go about it and why. Unfortunately, believers have been known to take scripture out of context and or read just the scriptures they like the sound of, but God’s word is complete and we are to read all of it, not just the ones we like.
Have you heard the saying, ‘the authority of the believer’? The book of Matthew 28:18 tells us why, it’s because all authority and power has been given to Jesus Christ and he dwells in YOU.
Therefore, if you take the time to read the scriptures you will uncover the keys to the kingdom and how to unlock them in your life and effect the world around you.
You might ask, but what are these keys? Well, the main one is the authority you and I have to pray. The bible says the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much, James 5:16. If you looked closely, James revealed that healing is also a key (James 5: 15-16). Even prophet Elijah recognized the supernatural power of prayer, verses 17 and 18.
Just look around you and you will see people are in captivity or bondage to one thing or the other and from what we read in Matthew 16 we know what to do, but failing to do so, is what keeps us and them bound.
Jesus came to set us free and he lived proclaiming the Kingdom of God and died to give us access to it – Mark 1:15 and John 8:36. He is the master key to all the others, to be able to access your authority and the supernatural you have to come through him.
When you read and apply John 14 and come to realise that all the supernatural books, films and shows are an erroneous reflection of what God wants for us, then you really come into some ‘kick ass’ power!
Jesus, preached repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand, he healed the sick, he raised the dead, he walked on the sea, he commanded the winds and the waves to be still, he rebuked demons and cast them out, he opened blind eyes, he supernaturally multiplied bread and fish to feed the hungry thousands etc. However, the phenomenal thing is, he said you and I will do greater works than these!
It’s time for us to go back to the word and start at John 14 to get started on accessing the keys to the Kingdom and walking (living) in supernatural power the way God intended you and I to live. So, let your prayer be today, “Holy Spirit teach me and help me access and unlock the keys of the kingdom according to your word in John 14 and for God’s glory, in Jesus name, amen”!
Now you have unlocked the keys, spread the word to other believers also.
