As we celebrate Easter this weekend, it is especially poignant with the coronavirus and ensuing lockdown. Advertisers and Businesses could not capitalise on it (in the lead up) the way they had done previously due to this pandemic and this is a blessing in disguise. The focus of Easter has and should always be about resurrection power and what that means to us all. 1 Corinthians 15 gives us the reason for our hope and what it has meant to the early Believers and what it means to us today.
The Resurrection of Christ
In verses 1 to 11 – the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the one which was preached to us and has saved the Believer (Christian) from their sins. Christ died to save the world from sin and judgment.
It’s the one that informs us of his death, burial and resurrection.
The Resurrection of the Dead
Although some may dispute Jesus’ resurrection the bible tells us that there were innumerable witnesses at the time who saw him and spoke with him. It informs us that even in our lives we must die to self, sin and the flesh because of the resurrection power and let the effects of God’s redemptive power shine through us.
Also, if he had not died and risen again our faith is meaningless and we would be the most miserable of all people.
See verses 12 to 33.
The Resurrection Body
Verses 35 to 49 tells about the resurrection body and why it differs from the natural body. It talks about what needs to take place to exchange your earthly body for a heavenly body.
It is here we learn that Jesus is the second Adam and what that means to us in relation to the resurrection. It is because of resurrection power we bear the image of Christ and reflect him here on earth.
Mystery and Victory
The final verses in 1 Corinthians 15, tells us about the mystery of the exchange of the perishable body for the imperishable body. It is concluded in a word of advice and ultimate victory reward here:
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” verse 58.
This is a time of reflection and rededication, a time to stand in your faith and live for Jesus separating yourself from the world knowing that His power lives in you and that long after Easter you are a carrier of His grace and a reflection of his glory.
